Semester 5 Goals

Goal 3

1. Periodontal Case Study

Reflection: We were allowed to follow a specific perio case from diagnosis, through treatment, and post-treatment. I found this assignment very rewarding. When the patient first came in, I did the Health History, Exams, Perio chart, Dr Exams, Treatment, Post-opt Instructions, and Perio Re-Eval. With all the information I collected, I could come up with the proper treatment plan and execute it. When the patient came back for their re-eval, it was amazing to see the improvement with the perio chart numbers and how the soft tissues looked. It was also nice to see the patient become motivated about their home care, which had a direct impact on their oral health. 

Goal 5

2. Community Health Analysis of Data

Reflection: For the Community Project, we went to the Elizabeth Gregory House and gave a presentation on the importance of oral health. While giving the presentation, it was great to see the connections they were making about nutrition and tooth pH levels and how they can remineralize the teeth. They were also astonished that the mouth is the gateway to the body and that they are systematically linked. After our presentation and learning these concepts, I am confident that these women will apply what was taught, and that is an amazing feeling. 

Goal 8

3. Special Needs Project

Reflection: In this project, our goal is to make it easier for someone with TBI to brush their teeth. Those who have TBI can have difficulty doing daily tasks, and aids are been developed to help make those tasks easier. I decided to use my crochet skills to create a soft and easy object to push a toothbrush through. It is also something that can be placed in the wash to be reused. I cannot imagine not having the ability to do my daily tasks, and doing this project made me more grateful and mindful of a minority community.
